Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Merrick Public Library is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of volunteers dedicated to the active promotion, welfare, and support of the Merrick Public Library.

These efforts are accomplished by raising public awareness of library resources and needs, promoting a public commitment to literacy and library engagement, and providing supplemental funding for materials, programs, equipment, and staff development.

The Friends have played a major role in the ongoing care and restoration of the Merrick Public Library, including painting and plastering, repairs to the doors, and maintaining the stained glass windows. They have also restored the fireplace paneling and assisted with the funding of roof repairs. They have generously supplemented the funding of security systems, and have also assisted with the rebinding of historical books and the purchase of children's materials.

The Friends collaborate with the Board of Library Trustees to promote library objectives and interests, support policies, and assist with fundraising, including an annual silent auction and used book sales. Monthly public meetings of the Friends are held at the Library.

New volunteers are always welcome! Contact the library for more information.

Donations to the Friends are accepted via cash or check, either at the library or in the mail.

Checks should be made out to "Friends of the Merrick Public Library."
